About Us

We are an ecosystem of social initiatives that build leadership for a better world.

If you belong to the crazy tribe of change makers, you belong here too! We are an evolving collective on a journey of personal growth and social transformation in new ways.

Collectively, we act out of a space of love and gratitude while having fun.

Our Philosophy

The Blue Ribbon Movement started out with the idea: “Together, we are stronger.” Today, we harness the power of collective action through an evolving ecosystem of projects aimed at personal growth and social transformation. Only an ecosystem has the diversity and resilience necessary to respond to social challenges.

We are building a movement of individuals, projects, organizations, and networks that can create impactful social change and make the world a better place.

Our Journey

  • 2000

BRM v1.0 was founded in 2000 by a group of young people passionate about the country. Its founding principle was Together We are Stronger, with the motto ‘Green India, Great India’.

  • 2000-2005

BRM organizes Khoj, Mumbai’s biggest inter-school festival. It starts with 1,500 students from 20 schools in 2000, and reaches over 5,000 students from 45 schools in 2005. BRM also organizes several projects to expose youth to social service.

  • 2009

After going into hibernation in 2005, BRM is revived by organizing informal meetings at Prithvi Cafe for young people to discuss social issues. The initial projects were The Mentoring Program and the Changemakers JAM.

  • 2010

BRM’s new avatar is co-founded by two school friends Abhishek and Akshat as a hybrid social enterprise. It begins with the first batch of Social Leaders Program, a service learning program for students and young professionals.

  • 2011

The Avanti Young Women Leadership Program is launched in memory of Avanti, daughter of Ashank Desai. The first South Asian Youth Conference takes place at IIM Bangalore with the theme of Peace.

  • 2013

The Community Connect Fellowship selects its first batch. BRM launches Relead, a residential leadership training program.

  • 2017

BRM launches The Gender Lab, a family of initiatives to address gender inequality through innovative interventions. BRM also launches several initiatives in addition to the Community Connect Fellowship to strengthen communities in Mumbai. These initiatives include People’s Un-versity, Media Lab, and RURBAN.

Past Initiatives

Sustainaware

We participated in the Sustainaware 2014 Intercontinental Youth Project, which convened NGOs from Argentina, Croatia, Hungary, Nigeria, Liechtenstein, and the US for a conference on sustainable development. Funded by the European Commission, it gathered global youth organizations with similar strategic objectives to share knowledge and experiences.

Social Leaders Programme Ladakh

We conducted a service learning program in two schools in Ladakh to build leadership skills among girls and boys of ages 13-14. This program was designed by BRM and delivered by a volunteer who traveled to Ladakh.
